Logger vs. Analytics

Aug 3, 2010 at 8:23 AM

As I'm slowing understanding the capabilities of this cool project, I keep wondering why there isn't explicit support for general purpose logging.  It seems like 98% of the infrastructure is there to make a great logger, but because the focus has been on analytics and counting button presses and video viewing times, that the last tiny steps of adding a few fields to the AnalyticsEvent for things like StackTrace, FunctionName, Severity were never taken.  Which means a bunch of duplicate code if we need both logging and analytics in our apps.

Of course, existing fields could be privately repurposed for logging, but then standardization is lost.

Just curious why this seemingly arbitrary limitation exists.
